The Anna University of Technology Madurai is gearing up for its second job fair to be held on March 28 and 29 for students of engineering colleges under its jurisdiction. Based on the feedback/placement outcome of the first job fair conducted last month, the university has taken some corrective measures to get jobs for maximum number of students this time. The job fair will be held in Madurai and about 25 companies would recruit candidates.
“Students' welfare is our focus and our university has lined up several measures in that direction. Placement is a priority area for us,” R. Murugesan, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University of Technology-Madurai, told The Hindu on Tuesday. The Vice-Chancellor along with varsity Registrar E. B. Perumal Pillai and other senior varsity officials had an exclusive preparatory meeting on Monday with Placement Officers of all engineering colleges from five districts to discuss how to better the students' output in the job fair on March 28 and 29.
During this meeting, the Vice-Chancellor had insisted that they will have to play a key role in fine-tuning the students for interviews, group discussion and aptitude tests.

“From the first job fair, we had got a feedback from a couple of companies that our students would have to improve their communication skills. They were doing well in two papers but lacking in written communication paper. That will be corrected now and we asked placement officers to focus on that,” said C. Swarnalatha, Director (Career Guidance), AUT Madurai. The list of companies participating in the ensuing job fair and the venue would be finalised in the next few days and would be intimated to colleges. A total of 42 engineering colleges in five districts _ Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul and Theni _ are under the jurisdiction of the varsity.

In the first job fair of the university, which was conducted here on February 12, the job-seekers' registration was over 4,000 of which nearly 1,000 were either spot-selected or shortlisted by companies for the next stage of the recruitment process.

“Placement officers are the breadwinners of colleges since they get jobs for students. They can mould students to do well during interviews and facilitate success. This message was highlighted by our Vice-Chancellor in the Monday meeting,” Ms. Swarnalatha said.
